Explosive video surfaced: Is anti-Russia legion going to war with Western weapons?

2023-06-22T20:16:01.912Z

Highlights: The self-declared goal of the Legion is the overthrow of Vladimir Putin and the Russian regime. The group is silent about where it gets its military equipment from. A video now provides insights into the arsenal of weapons used by the fighters. The first weapon identified is said to be a Swedish Pansarskott m/86, also known as AT4. It is a shoulder-launched anti-tank weapon that Ukraine received from Western countries last year and is accordingly also used by Ukrainian armed forces.

The Legion "Freedom of Russia" is causing unrest in Belgorod. Apparently, the fighters are equipped with Western weapons.

Belgorod – The war in Ukraine is not only taking place within Ukraine's borders. In the Belgorod region in southwestern Russia, right on the border with the neighboring country, attacks have increased in recent weeks, including by the Legion "Freedom of Russia". Fires and explosions at military or infrastructure facilities were also reported in Belgorod. The Legion has already claimed responsibility for several attacks on Russian territory. They deny relations with the government in Kiev.

The self-declared goal of the Legion is the overthrow of Vladimir Putin and the Russian regime. However, the group is silent about where it gets its military equipment from. A video now provides insights into the arsenal of weapons used by the fighters.

Legion "Freedom of Russia" launches fight against Kremlin regime in Belgorod

Footage shared by the Legion itself on Telegram on June 15 shows the fighters crossing a wooded area in the Shebekinsky district of Belgorod. It is immediately noticeable that some weapons in the video have subsequently been made unrecognizable. The portal Militant Wire analyzed the footage and was still able to detect some combat equipment.

The first weapon identified is said to be a Swedish Pansarskott m/86, also known as AT4. It is a shoulder-launched anti-tank weapon that Ukraine received from Western countries last year and is accordingly also used by the Ukrainian armed forces. Several AT4s are recognizable in the video.

Assault rifles in their possession, which Militant Wire claims to have recognized by their shape, among other things, are the DDM4 and M4 carbines from two US manufacturers and a Belgian-made FN F2000. All of them would also be used by the Ukrainian army against the Russian invaders.

Anti-Putin Legion uses Soviet and, apparently, Western weapons

In addition, Russian and Soviet infantry weapons are also on display, including the AGS-17 grenade launcher, a PK machine gun and an AK-74 assault rifle with a GP-25 grenade launcher under the barrel. It is unclear whether the weapons were previously in the possession of the Legion or whether the fighters captured them. None of the Russian or Soviet weapons were made unrecognizable.

Militant Wire concludes that the weapons censored in the video are probably supplies from the West to the Ukrainian armed forces. Perhaps they wanted to avoid the dissemination of images of Western weapons on Russian soil. (lrg/dpa)
