There hasn't been a village festival in Waakirchen since 2017 - this year it's that time again. With market stalls, motocross riding and other innovations, the hustle and bustle starts on the weekend.

Waakirchen – After a six-year dry spell, the village festival returns to Waakirchen next weekend. Around the parish church, locals and guests celebrate at over 30 stalls, tents and bars at the invitation of the local associations. Among them are proven offers for children and also some innovations.

One of the changes concerns the timing: Unlike in 2017, this year there will be no program on Sunday, but on Friday from 18 p.m. and on Saturday from 15 p.m. – in all weathers. Co-organizer Georg Rauscher explains: "First of all, we want to see how the festival is received after such a long time." The bobby car race and the horse parade had to be cancelled, but this would benefit the helpers. "They get more out of the party when there's time to clean up on Sunday."

Up to 1500 guests expected per day

The programme on the other two days is all the more exuberant: for the first time, the stands of the associations will be expanded to include more than ten market stalls selling regional products made of wood, works of art or, for example, crochet items. "That's what we've always had in mind," says the man from Waakirchen. The products could motivate families to go to the festival a little earlier to stroll through the hustle and bustle of the market.

In total, Rauscher hopes for up to 1500 guests per day, depending on the weather, so many have a maximum of space. Among other things, you can spread out in the wine tent, at the Hoppe bar of the athletes, at the wheat beer fountain of the fire brigade or at the Stoi bar in the former Bäckervoitl estate or try the culinary offerings.

Return planned every two years

Among other things, there is a bouncy castle for children, and pony rides and carriage rides are offered in the south of the church. In addition, there is a new attraction: the Hausham motorsport club offers children free motocross test rides. The association, of which Waakirchner is also a member, approached the Dorffest GbR to strengthen its work with young people, reports Rauscher. Driving is not dangerous: A companion runs with a cord next to it, to which the key is attached, explains the secretary of the GbR. When the key is pulled out, the machine switches off automatically.

The organisers have been working on the organisation of these and other events for about a year and a half – and planning for the next village festival will soon begin. After all, it won't take as long as it did last time, when first the Gaufest and later the pandemic occupied the calendar, Rauscher promises. Rather, the two-year rhythm should apply again in the future: The next village festival will soon be planned for 2025.

Special timetable for citizens' bus

The citizens' bus runs unscheduled at the village festival until late in the evening. The tours to Schaftlach start on Friday at 19 p.m. and on Saturday at 15 p.m. every hour until 22 p.m. at the Christlwirt. The Marienstein tour starts on Fridays at 18.30 pm and Saturdays at 15.30 pm, departures every hour until 22.30 pm. The timetable can be found at www.waakirchen.de. Nap
