Part of a cliff collapsed yesterday (Wednesday) on the beach in Beit Hankin in Hadera, with no casualties. The footage shows the collapse of the cliff, after earlier this week, ahead of the summer and the increase in the number of bathers on the beaches, the government company called for the protection of the Mediterranean coastal cliffs to act cautiously and responsibly in areas adjacent to the coastal cliff - since collapses may also occur in summer.

Yesterday, for the second time in the past two weeks, part of the cliff in Beit Hankin collapsed, and only miraculously no bathers were injured. These collapses followed the collapse on the promenade along the Netanya cliff last month.

Following the first collapse that occurred last week, the government company sent a letter to the Hadera municipality earlier this week demanding that they immediately address their responsibility for the necessary safety protections, and that the Director General of the Ministry of the Interior and the planning committees promote and budget for stabilizing the cliff since the cliff is in immediate danger of collapse.

The warning letter issued this week is a continuation of a warning letter and an engineering report sent two years ago on July 28, 2021, in which it was clarified to the Hadera Municipality of the great danger of the Beit Hankin cliff. Moreover, two years ago, the Government Company for the Protection of the Cliffs defined this area as a dangerous cliff that requires immediate treatment, after receiving an engineering report from a land consultant. The Hadera Municipality acted quickly, closing the restaurant at the top of the cliff and promoting a safety plan for the coastal access road.

Ilan Lavie, the government company for the protection of the cliffs of the Mediterranean coast, said that the collapse of parts of the cliff is not an apocalyptic scenario but an immediate danger that requires dealing with the protection of the cliff on the one hand, and on the other hand taking preventive and precautionary measures by the local authorities and the bathing public." Yesterday's collapse ended miraculously with no casualties and immediate steps are currently needed to improve the safety of bathers on the beach - this is in our psyche. At the national level, the issue of coastal cliff stability should be promoted in light of the urgent and immediate need by increasing budgets and simplifying regulation to deal with this challenge, and in light of the severity of the danger and in light of the rising sea level and sea strength, which will further aggravate the situation."

It should be noted that the Hadera Municipality yesterday began immediate actions to close the beach to bathers.
