Passengers of an easyJet flight that took off yesterday (Friday) from Ben Gurion Airport to London were surprised to discover that the flight did not land in London but almost 200 kilometers away, in the city of Birmingham.

The passengers on board the plane were informed of the landing in Birmingham ahead of arrival in English airspace and had to travel a long way to reach their destination.

"Instead of arriving in London at 18:30 p.m., we arrived around 1 a.m., paid 1,000 shekels for a special taxi because we couldn't wait for the shuttle to London, which arrived only a few hours after landing in Birmingham, we rushed to London and had no other choice," one passenger told Israel Hayom. "The wait was long and it's not clear what the problem was," he said. Why didn't we land at a destination closer to London?"

There are four airports around London: Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton and Santastad. Passengers were informed that the reason for landing in Birmingham was a lightning storm in the area of the airport where they were supposed to land.

"Passengers were provided with a bus"

EasyJet said: "We confirm that easyJet flight EZY2582 from Tel Aviv to London was diverted to Birmingham yesterday due to thunderstorms at Luton Airport. Passengers landing in Birmingham were provided with a bus to take them to Luton. Passengers who choose to travel in other ways will be reimbursed for the fare."

"The well-being and safety of passengers and crew is easyJet's top priority. Although the incident was beyond our control, we would like to apologize to customers for any inconvenience caused."
