"I appeal to the Israeli government: deal with this hazard before the next explosion. It's a ticking time bomb," he said, adding: "Meters from the scene were dozens of boys having a nature party. Luckily they weren't hurt."
A municipal source said: "In the 90s, an IMI factory that operated there was evacuated, and since then the municipality has not received an orderly mapping of the area in which the factory operated. To this day, we don't know how the warehouses, compounds, and work pits stood."
In conclusion, he said: "The area is a military zone. Two years ago, the state tried to market land here. This is a prestigious area, and we stood on our hind legs and opposed it as long as there was no land survey."
"Hermetically close the area"
The Herzliya Municipality demands that the security establishment and the Israel Land Authority (the Israel Land Authority that owns the area) immediately close the entire area and conduct a comprehensive and thorough survey of the remnants of explosives found in the area.
