"The elderly woman became a punching bag for her, as if she were an object with no value," according to an indictment filed in the Tel Aviv District Court against a 34-year-old caregiver from the Philippines for abusing a helpless person after she beat an elderly demented woman she was caring for.

According to the indictment, on numerous occasions, the caregiver abused an elderly woman, who is helpless and needs help meeting her basic needs and suffers from advanced dementia. The defendant was cruel to the elderly woman, inter alia, by attacking her in various parts of her body with blows and punches, pulling her hair and nose, hitting her with various objects, and spraying her with an alcoholic substance.

The elderly woman's son, who suspected that his mother had been abused by the caregiver, installed a security camera in the apartment where the caregiver and the elderly woman lived together, documenting all the assaults. The son said in his testimony that he arrived at his mother's apartment and noticed bruises on her body, which aroused his suspicions, so he checked the security cameras and discovered the acts of violence committed by the caregiver against his mother. In his testimony, he also gave details of the messages sent to him by the caregiver with photographs of bruises on the elderly woman's body, in which she falsely claimed that the elderly woman was bruised in her sleep, and a message from the caregiver last week stating that she did not know the source of the elderly woman's bruises.

The caregiver admitted during interrogation that she hit the elderly woman on several occasions in different parts of her body and that she sprayed an alcoholic substance on her. According to her, her actions stemmed from stress and a difficult mental state she found herself in as a foreign worker from the Philippines. However, she denied some of the acts attributed to her.

The motion for remand until the end of the proceedings stated: "The defendant was cruel and abused the elderly woman, and her actions show her great danger to the point of dehumanization, so that the elderly woman became a punching bag for her, as if she were an object in which there was no value. Alongside the danger, there is a strong fear of fleeing the fear of justice in the absence of a connection to Israel, and therefore the grounds for detention are in full force. In view of all the above, the honorable court is requested to order the detention of the respondent until the end of the legal proceedings against her."
