The State Prosecutor's Office filed a request with the Jerusalem District Court on Sunday, requesting to "speed up the use of the interview and end the evidentiary stage" in the legal proceedings being conducted against Netanyahu in the various cases. This is "in light of the great and clear public interest in the rapid advancement of the trial."
In addition, the State Attorney's Office requested that from now on all hearings between the parties be held in the courtroom and recorded in the transcript. This comes after a private conversation during the hearings was leaked yesterday, in which the judges told the prosecution that they would "find it difficult to prove bribery in Case 4,000."
The conversation took place on the day of the testimony of Avner Borochov, a former senior editor at Walla!, who described what happened at the site during his tenure. During the lunch break on the day of his testimony, the judges told the prosecution that after hearing most of the prosecution witnesses in the case, it would have difficulty proving the bribery component of the case.
The judges' conversation on the eve of Milchan's testimony is a thick hint for both sides to reach a plea bargain.
While the prosecution will probably not be able to prove the bribery offense in Case 4,000, Milchan's testimony may help prove fraud and breach of trust in Case 1,000, which may serve as a catalyst for reaching a plea bargain between the parties.
