Terrorist Walid (Nimer) Daka, 61, was sentenced to life imprisonment for involvement in the abduction and murder of soldier Moshe Tamam. Daka, who is in serious health, asked in recent weeks to be released from prison, 39 years after the soldier's murder, but on Monday the parole board decided that the veteran terrorist would not be released.

Under Article 4 of the Terrorism Law, terrorists are not entitled to parole. Despite this, Daka's lawyer, Avigdor Feldman, submitted a request to the special parole board, which discussed the releases, among other things, on humanitarian grounds. The Central District Attorney's Office filed a request to prevent the hearing because it does not comply with the law.

Daka, who has been imprisoned since 1987, is considered one of the oldest security prisoners in Israel and even served as spokesman and representative of the prisoners in the prisons where he served his sentence. At the same time, Daka is considered a prominent political activist in the Balad movement. Daka's status in the security prisoners' wing and the fact that he was a terrorist who murdered and tortured a soldier in cold blood led to widespread protests against his release. Among other things, Ortal Tamam, Moshe's niece, wrote: "My uncle's murderer was assigned to a regular parole board and not the special one suitable for sub-humans like him. If we can't turn the world upside down, it might be set free."

The parole board decided not to approve Daka's application. The committee said that "we determine that the prisoner will not be released on parole under the Parole Law, whatever the grounds for the release."

The Choose Life Forum of Bereaved Families and Victims of Terror, which fought against the release of terrorist Walid Daka, said: "Daka is a despicable terrorist and his days are supposed to end behind bars. Unfortunately, we are exposed to more and more requests from terrorists for early release, and this needs to be dealt with at the root.
These days there are two more terrorists before a committee to reduce the third, and we expect that they too will not be released and that life sentences will not be given to terrorists. Every terrorist knew that he would end his life in prison."
