"Unfortunately, the power of governance is now directed at a caring Jewish public": Senior rabbinical figures in Religious Zionism published a letter on Monday demanding that the security establishment stop acting against settlers who harmed Palestinians and their property, and instead act more aggressively against the Palestinians.

The rabbis' announcement stated that the letter was published against the background of the settlers' feeling that "their blood is wanton," and was signed, among others, by Rabbi Dov Lior, Rabbi Yitzchak Ginzburg, Rabbi David Druckman, Rabbi Eliyahu Zinni and Rabbi David Pendel.

At the beginning of the letter, the rabbis wrote, "Your job is to defend the people of Israel in its land and fight Israel's enemies. The Almighty has given you this task and the strength to do it properly if you wish," and that in the struggle against the Palestinians, "we are facing an entire population that openly and openly supports terrorism," and demanded collective punishment against them.

Later in the letter, the rabbis addressed the difficult situation felt by the residents of Judea and Samaria: "The state of lawlessness creates a vacuum that pushes and forces citizens to act on their own, in defensive and retaliatory actions," and spoke out against the enforcement measures taken by the security forces.

"Unfortunately, the power of governance is now directed at a caring Jewish public, with arrests, use of force, and even collective punishment, such as the shameful military siege on the community of Ateret last Saturday night," they wrote, adding that "in the face of the demand to 'enforce law and order on the settlers,' it must be clearly stated that in the current state of emergency, the security forces must engage in war against the enemy and are not available for policing tasks against Jews."

The rabbis signed their letter by demanding that the heads of the defense establishment "distinguish between lovers and enemies" and "direct all efforts to subdue the terrorists and their supporters in order to bring security to the people of Israel in the Land of Israel."
