The calm summer weather is over. A cold front brings sometimes strong thunderstorms with hail, heavy rain and gusts of up to 100 km/h.
Kassel – The current summer heat is getting a damper at the start of the week. A cold front will move from west to east over Germany on Monday (26 June). There is a local threat of thunderstorms with downpour and hail, warns meteorologist Georg Hass from the weather portal wetter.com. "If you get into the center of such a thundercloud, there may well be a massive lightning fireworks display."

The German Weather Service (DWD) also warns of the cold front with partly strong thunderstorms, partly with thunderstorms, via Twitter. According to the DWD weather experts, severe gusts of wind up to wind force 10 are also to be expected in the east of the country. For this purpose, the DWD shares a graphic. Blue arrows mark the direction of the cold front moving towards Germany. A significant drop in temperature can be seen on a second weather graph in the tweet.
The temperatures are still up to 30 degrees. But it cools down considerably. In the northwest, temperatures drop to around 25 degrees, at the North Sea to 20 degrees.

The weather expert speaks of an "explosive mixture" if the low-pressure system were to approach. The greatest risk of thunderstorms is in the northeast and south of Germany. Last week, storm "Lambert" caused storms with flooded cellars and a mini-tornado in Cologne.

As the day progresses, showers and thunderstorms will spread further eastwards. In particular, from Ostholstein/Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to the Vogtland and East Saxony, according to the current DWD forecast (as of June 26, 12 noon). Heavy rain (between 15 and 25 litres per square metre), hail and severe squalls (9-10 Bft) are possible. In the south, the DWD expects thunderstorms only locally "most likely from the Alb to the Alps". The DWD warns of severe weather in the following regions:

Weather outlook for Germany
After the passage of the thunderstorms, the maximum values are between 22 and 26 degrees, at the sea around 20 degrees. The cold sea air drives away the heat. On Wednesday, rain showers are forecast on the Bavarian edge of the Alps, in North Rhine-Westphalia, and Rhineland-Palatinate, but it will be friendlier. However, new adversity is already announced for Thursday (29 June). Isolated thunderstorms are expected, especially in the northwestern half. But lightning and thunder are also possible in the south and in the mountains. On the Upper Rhine, temperatures are well above 30 degrees again. (ml)
