Scooter, a 7-year-old Chinese crested dog, is such a special dog that he was named the ugliest dog in the world this past weekend for 2023.

The competition, held for the 50th consecutive year at the Sonoma-Marine Fair in California, aims to encourage people to adopt dogs and showcase those who have managed to overcome adversity, while celebrating their imperfection.

Over the years of his life, Scooter, whose ugliness stands out thanks to his tongue coming out of his mouth, his short tail and, of course, the baldness on his head, managed to overcome quite a few challenges. When he was a puppy, a dog breeder planned to put him to sleep because he was born with hind legs facing back, a condition that indicated he would never walk – but after being rescued by another person, he underwent a healing process, and with the help of a specially adapted stroller, he was able to walk, without feeling unlike any other dog.

"I am very happy and especially proud that Scooter was crowned the winner of the ugliest dog competition in the world," said Almqvist, the dog's owner. "Despite all the challenges he experienced with his legs, Scooter beat all odds against him, proving the true meaning of resilience and determination."

In addition to bringing great pride to his species, Scooter also received a trophy and a cash prize worth $1,500. Not bad at all for an ugly dog.
