A serious affair of sexual offenses committed against minors by a resident of central Israel while they were under the influence of dangerous drugs supplied to her (Israel Police)
The Haifa District Court on Tuesday sentenced a 75-year-old man to eight years in prison for a series of sexual offenses he committed against three of his minor granddaughters, including one who was six years old. A panel of judges Avi Levy, Eran Cotton and Idit Weinberger ruled that it would also pay them compensation totaling NIS 180,12. This is a lenient sentence for someone who had already been in prison, after being sentenced to eight years in prison for kicking a friend's 1996-year-old daughter in a caravan toilet in Eilat during a vacation in <>.
"He is a good father to his children and takes care of their livelihood," argued defense attorney Tammy Ullman, who represented him. "He should be allowed to rehabilitate and end his life outside a detention facility." The psychiatrist who gave her opinion on behalf of the defense wrote that the sex offender "suffers from an uncontrollable sex drive and is ready to return to normal life after his release."

Yesterday, it was reported that a martial arts instructor from Beersheba was arrested about two weeks ago on suspicion of forcibly committing an indecent act on a girl under the age of 16 whom he was training. He violated the prohibition given to him to instruct minors, having previously served a four-year prison sentence for a similar offense. The suspect was arrested immediately after receiving the report, and on Thursday the Beersheba District Court granted the police's request that the detention hearings in the suspect's case be held behind open doors in order to encourage additional complainants to come and file a complaint.
