The spotted mill feeds on invertebrates including crabs, cane fish, snails and oysters and is not considered dangerous to humans. Its biggest enemy is the leopard shark and super-predatory sharks.
The spotted mill is a rare animal found mainly on the seafloor in tropical regions. It is believed that the dots on the top simulate the sun's rays hitting the seafloor and serve as camouflage from large predators. It is also currently a protected species in a "near risk" state.
