Due to the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha this week, a general shortage of fresh chicken and turkey products is expected in the market. Eid al-Adha falls from today, Wednesday to Saturday evening, creating a shortage of slaughterhouse workers.

Food branches were held with signs indicating a shortage in the industry. It should be noted that a shortage of workers from the Arab sector is also expected to affect the availability of online deliveries by food chains and other services.

Moti Elkabetz, secretary of the Poultry Breeders Association, told Israel Hayom, "We raise poultry beyond what the public needs. From what depends on us, that is, in the towers, we are even in surplus. There is a huge amount of poultry beyond what the public will consume, but what we don't have is the slaughter issue, and if there is a problem of slaughter, it does not depend on us.

Asked if it would not have been possible to prepare for these days otherwise, Elkabetz replied, "Most of the workers who work in the slaughterhouses are from the Arab sector. As Independence Day approached, there was a problem that the holiday clashed with the sector's holiday, and then there was a shortage. No other workers have yet been found to work in the slaughterhouses. As such, there is no solution, the state does not bring in foreign workers. However, if there is a shortage of fresh poultry, consumers will buy frozen poultry. It's not like we're now in the midst of a holiday, where there is a high consumption of poultry and meat, and in any case they don't normally slaughter on Fridays and Saturdays. On Sunday, they will return to increased slaughter and provide the required number of poultry and beyond."

Rami Levy, owner of Rami Levy Shivuk HaShikma, also responded to the expected shortage, telling Israel Hayom: "We have stocked up on enough for these days. On the face of it, it seems that there will be no significant shortage. The reason for the shortage in the sector is the Eid al-Adha holiday of the Arab sector. The one who controls the slaughter is the sector. From the moment they have a holiday and they don't work, then there is no slaughter. As mentioned, we equipped ourselves for a large purchase. Compared to last year, we have an overall increase in sales of 12-15% of sales, because people want to buy cheaper, so we prepared with a larger amount."
