The minister spoke with Palestinian Minister of Civil Affairs Hussein al-Sheikh in light of the recent riots, and said that the security establishment "views with severity the violence used by extremist elements against Palestinian civilians."
The Defense Ministry said in a statement: "The two discussed the recent increase in terrorist incidents, and insisted on the common need to calm the situation on the ground, for the sake of the Israeli and Palestinian populations in Judea and Samaria. The defense minister emphasized to Minister al-Sheikh that the security forces will act to thwart terrorism wherever necessary, and conveyed a message that swift and forceful action must be taken against terrorist centers that work to destabilize the territory."
"The minister also emphasized in the conversation that the State of Israel will act to bring the rioters to justice. Defense Minister Galant wished Minister al-Sheikh a happy Eid al-Adha holiday, hoping that the holiday will be an opportunity to strengthen security stability in the region."
