Canadian fires break carbon emissions record

Carbon emissions generated by the fires in Canada have reached record numbers, with the highest records since 2003. The figure reaches 160 million tons of carbon.

This is the worst bushfire season in Canadian history with 76,000 kilometres of burned areas. This extension exceeds the sum of the area consumed by fire in 2016, 2019, 2020 and 2022, according to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre.

The problem seems to have no end anytime soon. In the following weeks, emissions from the fires in Quebec and Ontario will reach Europe, although no serious effects on air quality are expected.
