Madonna hospitalized: developed a serious bacterial infection

Madonna's upcoming Celebration tour has been postponed, according to an Instagram post from her manager Guy Oseary. The tour was scheduled to kick off in Vancouver, Canada, in just over two weeks, on Saturday, July 15.

"On Saturday, June 24, Madonna developed a severe bacterial infection that led to several days in the ICU," he wrote. "His health is improving, however, he is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected."

ICU is the acronym for intensive care unit, section of a hospital where the most seriously ill patients who require continuous and specific surveillance and care are admitted.

"Right now we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour," the post continues. We will share more details with you as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for the rescheduled shows."

The tour is a major undertaking for the 64-year-old singer. A 43-city world tour that is scheduled to last until early next year, which will "highlight its unparalleled catalog of music from the past 40 years or more," according to the announcement.

He will also "pay tribute to New York City, where he began his musical career."
