The Union Mutualiste de Gestion des Établissements du Grand Lyon (UMGEGL), bringing together the mutual hospital group Les Portes du Sud and a nursing home in Vénissieux and with more than 500 employees, announced Wednesday that it had requested its placement in receivership.

Already in deficit before the pandemic, the Union Mutualiste de Gestion des Établissements du Grand Lyon (UMGEGL) has accumulated financial losses since 2015 and suffered from Covid-19" and is now plagued by an increase in charges accelerated by inflation and an "insufficient revaluation of the funding granted to it," the structure explained in a statement.
This private non-profit entity suffers in particular "the weight of accumulated deficits and the current explosion of costs" of wages, energy, drugs and food, she explains. Thus, "faced with the exposed difficulties of the clinic, in deficit since 2015, the Union decided to act rather than suffer by seeking the protection of the judicial court of Lyon with the opening of a receivership procedure for its benefit". Already in February, the hospital had announced the closure of its night emergency rooms for at least six months.
Medical appointments always insured
After a hearing held on Tuesday, an observation period is expected to be announced in a deliberation on July 3. In this context, the governance of the clinic must be accompanied by a judicial administrator. At the same time, adds the structure, "a potential solution for the resumption of UMGEGL's activity has been identified and filed. It is not at this stage definitive and remains to be refined. During this process, the UMGEGL is operating as usual."
While waiting for new developments, she adds, the residents of the Ehpad La Solidage are taken care of, medical appointments are made and insured, hospitalized patients receive the same care, salaries are paid normally and emergencies operate during their opening hours. Founded in 2001, UMGEGL provides care for 317 beds and places and employs 530 people. It achieved a turnover of 44 million euros in 2022.
