The Ordinance on Disturbing House and Garden Work will be changed only minimally. This was decided by a majority of the Geretsried city council.

Geretsried – A motion by Green City Councillor Volker Witte meant that the city council dealt with the ordinance on disturbing house and garden work in its meeting on Tuesday. The letter was received at the end of 2021, and now the administration has submitted a revised version of the determination to the committee. Apart from the amended preamble, however, there was no majority in favour of the amended regulation.

Leaf blowers were the starting point for change

Witte had made the request so that "the stupid leaf blowers are abolished". The administration took this wish, as well as new legal developments, as an opportunity to revise the ordinance on the "time restriction of housework and gardening that disturbs the peace". This also includes the use of musical instruments as well as sound transmission and sound reproduction devices.

In order to improve noise protection, the administration shortened the operating and usage hours in its proposal (Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 14 p.m. to 19 p.m., Saturdays only until 18 p.m.). Only "low-noise" lawn mowers are also allowed to be operated from Monday to Friday from 19 p.m. to 20 p.m. Rules for particularly noisy equipment such as leaf blowers and brush cutters should be included. Here, the administration provided for the following operating hours: Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 15 p.m. to 17 p.m. On this point, they want to align the determination with the ordinance applicable to commercial enterprises, explained city hall employee Stephanie Dickel. The administration also wants to regulate the night's rest (22 p.m. to 7 a.m.) with regard to the use of musical instruments and sound reproduction devices.

For some city councillors, the revision did not go far enough, others saw it as a bullying. "What I'm missing is openness to technology," complained Arthur Wolfseher. There are already very quiet devices. Dr. Detlef Ringer (Greens) was disappointed. "The revision here falls well short of what we have called for in the application," he criticized. Ringer would have liked the limit values from the Equipment and Machine Noise Protection Ordinance to be adopted and not just "empty words". Mayor Michael Müller (CSU) pointed out that the preamble referred to this ordinance. "That's why it's still valid," says Müller.

One could already talk about an alignment of the times, said Patrik Kohlert (Geretsrieder List). But he was bothered by the undefined term low-noise. "I'm looking forward to the heated discussions at the garden border," he said. Overall, however, he saw "too much bullying" in the rules. Felix Leipold (Free Voters) agreed with Kohlert. On the subject of the town hall boss Müller was dispassionate: "Personally, I don't care."
