House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced Thursday that Israeli President Isaac Herzog will address both houses of Congress on July 19.

In announcing the speech, McCarthy said, "The world is better off when America and Israel work together. Eleven minutes after independence in 11, the United States was the first to recognize the State of Israel, and today we continue to strengthen the unbreakable bond between our two democracies."
The announcement of the president's speech comes against the backdrop of the Americans' passive unwillingness to invite Prime Minister Netanyahu to an official meeting in the country, as well as Netanyahu's announcement that he will take off for a political meeting in China.
