The London-based newspaper Al-Quds Al-Arabi noted in its headline that "Mossad hijacks from inside Iran the mastermind behind the attack on Israelis in Cyprus." The newspaper noted that "the Mossad exposed in the announcement an operation to thwart a terrorist attack in Cyprus by brainwashing from Iranian soil. The discovery includes the identity of the initiator of the operation, Yusuf Shahbazi."

The pro-Qatari newspaper Al-Arabi Al-Jadid was also based mainly on Israeli media reports. The Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat reported that the Mossad had revealed details about the foiling of a plan to assassinate an Israeli businessman in Cyprus, and Israeli intelligence agents worked in Iran to arrest the suspect. "Israel said on Thursday that Mossad agents worked in Iran to arrest a suspect in command and planning of an Iranian plan to attack Israelis in Karpisin." The Saudi newspaper added that Iran had not commented so far and did not say whether such an attack had been thwarted.
Last week foreign media reported that an attack targeting Israeli targets in Cyprus had been thwarted by Israeli, Cypriot and other intelligence agencies.
