The plume of smoke was impressive. This Monday, a fire broke out around noon in a Roma camp in Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône, on the edge of the commune of Méry-sur-Oise and the Francilienne. As a result, the exit to the Vert Galant business park of the N 184 remained cut off for several hours as well as access to Avenue du Fond de Veaux.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported among the fifty people present on the camp at that time. A census conducted in January reported 87 inhabitants in the settlement, which had been set up for some time on land owned by several entities. However, despite the efforts of the firefighters, thirteen caravans and eight light vehicles as well as part of the adjoining thatched field were destroyed, for a total area of 1,500 m².

67 firefighters mobilized

Significant resources were quickly deployed by the Val-d'Oise firefighters. No less than 67 firefighters with four hand hoses and 22 machines, including the forest fire tanker, were engaged at the height of the disaster. It was quickly contained. In their task, the firefighters were also able to count on the help of a drone but also of an operational draftsman whose mission is to make sketches representing the disaster in its volume and to transcribe it in three dimensions. A brand new function within Sdis 95.

By 15 p.m., most of the flames were already extinguished. Nevertheless, firefighters remained mobilized on site and operations continued to prevent any resumption of fire. However, no request for relocation has been made by the victims, we learn this Monday from the town hall of Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône whose representatives went on site. "People were already accompanied by the Red Cross and will continue to be," says the prefecture of Val-d'Oise. If the investigation will have to determine the exact reasons for the disaster, the accidental track remained largely privileged.
