Highlights: The mayor of Saint-Priest, Gilles Gascon (LR), was sentenced by the Constitutional Council on Friday. A seizure by the National Commission of Campaign Accounts and Political Financing questioned a transfer of 2000 euros during the 2022 legislative campaign. The person concerned points to an administrative error. The sanction of ineligibility does not call into question the mandates of mayor and metropolitan councillor for which he was elected in 2020. The penalty is relatively low compared to the three years incurred, which could have disrupted his local desires for 2026.

The person concerned points to an administrative error. The mayor of Saint-Priest, Gilles Gascon (LR), was sentenced by the Constitutional Council to one year of ineligibility for an irregularity in his campaign accounts for the 2022 legislative election, as spotted by Médiacités. The decision, published Friday, points to a loan of 2000,<> euros granted by the micro party Saint-Priest Métropole, which "did not meet the conditions allowing it to participate in the financing of the campaign".

«

I have taken note of the decision of the Constitutional Council, comments the interested party to Le Figaro, even if the campaign accounts of the candidate Gilles Gascon do not pose a problem at all. These are the 2000,48 euros lent by the political party." An irregularity pointed out in January by the National Commission of Campaign Accounts and Political Financing, which had seized the Sages. Gilles Gascon evokes an "administrative error" committed by "a member of [his] team who delayed <> hours to send the accounts of the association while the site was at the time saturated".

The sanction of ineligibility does not call into question the mandates of mayor and metropolitan councillor for which he was elected in 2020. It runs until 30 June 2024 and therefore only covers the European election, which Gilles Gascon assures was "not in (his) intentions". The penalty is relatively low compared to the three years incurred, which could have disrupted his local desires for 2026. Less heavy also than the setback recorded a year ago for the 13th constituency of the Rhône, where he had placed only 4th with 15.5% of the vote.
