Thibault de Montbrial is a lawyer at the Paris Bar and President of the Centre de réflexion sur la sécurité intérieur. He has published "Osons l'autorité" (L'Observatoire, 2020) and "Le Sursaut ou le Chaos" (Plon, 2015).
After six nights of rioting, the situation appears much more worrying than in 2005. The intensity of the clashes is higher: the police already have more than three times more wounded than in twenty-one days in 2005! The contagion reached all France from the first evening. Far from confining themselves to their environment, the rioters ravaged the city centers. Paris was not spared. More than a thousand state-symbolic buildings were attacked and sometimes destroyed. The police are attacked in the rear (barracks and police stations) and sometimes in ambush on their routes.
The rioters are organized, with coordinated maneuvers in time and space thanks to social networks. Above all, they no longer hesitate to attack it physically...
