The soil still smokes on the side of Guernes (Yvelines), near Mantes-la-Jolie, where an impressive harvest fire ravaged this Monday a plot of 22 hectares. The fire broke out in the early afternoon in an oat field adjoining the D148 towards the nearby town of Follainville-Dennemont.
A dozen fire trucks were immediately dispatched to the scene to try to control the flames. Which have nevertheless spread to groves as well as undergrowth adjoining the field. At the height of the intervention, nearly fifty firefighters were mobilized.
The previous fire dates back to late May
Detours were quickly put in place to prevent motorists from accessing the area. At the end of the day, the fire was considered extinguished but firefighters were still on site to ensure any recurrence of the fire.
