The Kiryat Shmona police arrested the suspect in the stabbing, a well-known figure in the city, and after an investigation an indictment was filed against him, indicating that about a month and a half ago, the victim came with his six-year-old daughter to the "Zohar Company" synagogue on Yaakov Malul Street in Kiryat Shmona. A memorial service was held for the accused's brother, the latter demanded that he leave and when he refused, the defendant pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the abdomen. The victim tried to escape, but the assailant chased him through the city streets, caught up with him and stabbed him again in the back. As a result of the stabbings, the victim was hospitalized in serious condition, anesthetized and on a ventilator at Ziv Hospital in Safed.
The stabbing suspect was arrested and remanded in custody several times. The police, with the help of the State Prosecutor's Office, filed an indictment against him in the Nazareth District Court and a request for detention until the end of the proceedings, for causing injury with aggravated intent and possession of a knife.
