A day after the speech by ousted Tel Aviv district commander Ami Eshed, in which he claimed that his removal was politically motivated, senior police officials launched an attack on the district commander.
The police are assessing the situation ahead of the demonstrations expected in Kaplan this Saturday night, which Eshed is supposed to command together with his replacement, Lt. Gen. Peretz Amar. However, following his harsh remarks yesterday in which he attacked Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, the police doubt whether Eshed will arrive in the district on Saturday and will command the events.

Eshed's speech yesterday is still stirring up turmoil in the organization. Senior police officials expressed outrage that Eshed painted the police and their commanders with political color in his speech. According to them, "The Israel Police has managed to keep itself out of the political sheikh from the beginning of the protest until today. There is a uniform and orderly policy that trickled down to the last police officer, except in a very few cases in relation to hundreds of incidents," they say, adding: "With all due respect to the connection created between Ami Eshed and the protest, there was a planned round of extras, and it was clear to my people that he would not remain in his position."

A senior police officer expressed surprise and said, "It is strange that a commander who purports to be a commander until the last moment abandons his shift and lets his subordinates wallow in the chaos he created."
