Changes in the wake of Wagner's rebellion? Russian President Vladimir Putin has effectively removed the commander of Ukraine's "special military operation," Chief of Staff General Valery Gerasimov, the Moscow Times newspaper reported on Sunday.
According to the report, Putin was "furious" over the results of military operations in Ukraine and the return of commanders of Ukrainian forces in Mariupol by Turkey to Ukraine.

It was also reported that Gerasimov was not completely removed from the post of chief of staff of the Russian army, but from now on he will not directly command what is happening in the war zones in Ukraine. He was replaced by the commander of the airborne forces, Mikhail Teplinsky, who is considered a respected commander with proven achievements and great popularity among the combat forces, which are suspicious of senior Russian military officials. Teplinsky was previously ousted by Defense Minister Shoigu after he reportedly protested the army's wastefulness in the lives of its soldiers.

The deposed Gerasimov is considered one of the military rivals of the commander of the Wagner force, Yevgeny Prigozhin. During the Wagner rebellion last month, demands to oust Gerdimov alongside Defense Minister Shoigu resurfaced, which Prigozhin referred to as ineffective commanders who damaged their decisions to the Russian war effort.
