In the shadow of the government's calls to fire her: Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara made an unusual statement at the State Prosecutor's Office's conference: "Attacks on the law enforcement system and gatekeepers in the country have recently increased.

"We are pressured to make certain decisions in concrete cases that you are conducting or in investigation files that you are examining. In legal counsel, too, we are pressured to bias our professional judgment and violate our duty as gatekeepers.

"I won't be deterred. I know that the State Attorney is not deterred either. And so are you all. We will continue to act as always. According to the facts. According to the law. consistently and equitably."

On the progressive legislation to abolish the grounds of reasonableness for decisions made by elected officials: "Acting reasonably is a basic duty of the government in its relationship with the individual. The government's duty to act reasonably is a central guarantee of maintaining the
rule of law and governmental fairness. The bill does not present an alternative guarantee, nor does it provide any response to a number of sensitive issues in the activity of the executive branch: discriminatory or irresponsible conduct by the government during an election period, or the appointment and dismissal of gatekeepers and heads of
systems.

"The damage caused by the bill is greater than the direct harm resulting from the appointment of a person unfit for a senior position or the dismissal of a gatekeeper who performed his duties. Eliminating the duty of reasonableness of the government and its ministers is liable to lead to the fact that any decision
by a gatekeeper in which he insisted on his professional opinion vis-à-vis the elected echelon will also be his last.

"This is a fatal blow to the government's immune system from arbitrary decisions – a multi-systemic blow."
