Highlights: "The Sound of Freedom" is based on the true story of Tim Ballard, an American working to rescue children who found themselves part of the human trafficking industry. The film follows Ballard's mission to save children from sex trafficking. It was produced on a budget of only $14.5 million, starring Jim Caviezel ("The Count of Monte Cristo," "Wanted"). The film's difficult subject matter led to low expectations, of covering the budget in the first weekend, and raking in slight profits afterwards.

How did an anonymous studio movie, produced on a meager budget by Hollywood standards and booed by the mainstream media, become the biggest hit of the summer with Indiana Jones, Mission Impossible and The Flash competing?

Summer is usually the big time for big-budget movies. Everyone is on vacation, movie theaters are packed with viewers and invested films bring in millions of dollars at the box office. But this month a strange thing happened, and an independent film by a small studio, produced on a minimal budget, managed to break into the top of blockbusters. So we asked Perplexity to tell us about the surprise hit:

The film "The Sound of Freedom" took the world by storm this summer. It is based on the true story of Tim Ballard, an American working to rescue children who found themselves part of the human trafficking industry.

In fact, it covered the budget on its launch day – American Independence Day (July 4), and now, two weeks later, it already has revenues of over $85 million, and stars at the top of the blockbuster list alongside Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which cost almost $300 million.

"The Sound of Freedom" received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. Many commented on the film's strong message and emotional appeal. However, there has been controversy surrounding the film, claiming that it is trying to appeal to a certain niche on the far right in the United States, which believes that some of the country's top politicians are involved in child sex trafficking. This is despite the fact that the film is not set in the United States at all and does not even mention such theories in the slightest.

The controversy not only didn't hurt "The Sound of Freedom"—it probably contributed to making it a hit, because it caused the right-wing media to encourage people to go watch it to see that the left-wing media misrepresented it. At the same time, he managed to get all sides of the media to talk about child trafficking and the fight against it. The film helped raise awareness of the subject, proving the power of a media storm and, beyond that, the power of independent cinema (this is only the second film by the studio that produced it) and the hunger among viewers for stories that deal with real and important issues.
