Today we see Iran as a sworn enemy that threatens to destroy us – but for many centuries, the country in its incarnations has been a cultural power that has created some of the most beautiful sites in the world. Meta's new artificial intelligence, Lama 2, tells us about some such sites worth hoping for that one day, soon, we will be able to visit a country without a foreign passport and risk arrest as spies:
Persepolis
Persepolis in Fars Province was once the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Persian Empire and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city's stunning architecture, intricate carvings and beautiful gardens make it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in ancient history and Middle Eastern culture.
Maidan-e Imam
Located in Isfahan, the square is one of the largest public spaces in the world, and includes four impressive mosques, two palaces and a grand bazaar. The square's stunning architecture, formerly known as Naqsh-e Jahan and Maidan-e Shah, and vibrant colors make it every photographer's dream.
Golestan Palace
This palace was built in Tehran during the Qajar dynasty, and served as the royal residence of the Shah of Iran. Today, the palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with several museums showcasing the art, literature and history of the region.
Shiraz
This city in southern Iran is known for its poetry, literature and winemaking. Visitors can explore the city's historic sites, such as the pink Nasir ad-Din Mulk Mosque, Naderi Museum and Aram Garden, before sipping tea in a traditional tea house.
Yazd
A desert city in central Iran, known for its unique architecture and Zoroastrian heritage. Visitors can explore the city's narrow streets, lined with old brick houses, visit the Amir Ciechamak complex, and admire the sunset over the sand dunes surrounding the city.
Kerman

Mashaul

Almoth Castle
The medieval mountain fortress was built high in the Alborz Mountains in the province of Qom. The castle was once the stronghold of Hassan-e Sabah, the founder of the Hashishyun sect ("Assassin Sect"), and boasts spectacular views of the surrounding valleys and peaks.
