A 26-year-old man was sentenced to 18 months in prison, including 8 months in prison, this Thursday, by the court of Compiègne, for having assaulted his little girlfriend.

Grégory B., 26, wanted to rebuild his life in Compiègne. The young man arrived from Martinique in 2018. He sailed between the suburbs of Paris and Angers (Maine-et-Loire), where he worked as an order picker and obtained last year the truck license. After a breakup, he arrives in the Oise, where a friend lives. "I felt alone, isolated in metropolitan France," he explains. It was there that he met Leila (not her real name). An idyll? Not really. It is for violence against the latter, in particular, that the young man found himself this Thursday before the judges of the court of Compiègne.

The couple formed in early July. Both meet regularly in Airbnbs or hotels. But on July 12, the police had to intervene: Grégory B. was at the Compiègne train station, where he has his habits with a friend, and hit his girlfriend. He also confiscated her phone, so she couldn't call the police. Auditioned, Leila reveals that Gregory B. is violent when he drinks. The day before, he had already drunk too much with his friend. Twelve glasses of whisky, he confessed at the hearing. He also smokes cannabis, sometimes, and takes cocaine. When it is time to go to bed, Leila refuses him a. She gets a slap. The young woman leaves the scene, but he chases her down the street.

"He behaves like a little king"

Present at the hearing, however, the victim announces to the judges that he wishes to withdraw his complaint. "Normally, he's not violent," she says. He is kind and respectful. Seeing him in this situation hurts me. I still love him. Only, the deputy public prosecutor thinks that "if she expresses respect for him, it is not reciprocal". There is no question of stopping the judicial machine. "He could have been prosecuted for attempted rape," said the magistrate. He behaves like a little king. She must obey. The prosecutor's office is worried about the hold it has over her. At the police station, she refused a confrontation for fear of reprisals. »

Grégory B. also appeared for acts of breach of trust dating back to February. To help his cousin move to Creil, he rented a car from a resident of Compiègne, via a website, and did not return it in time. "I had to go back to Angers for work, but I had asked my friend to go and return it," he tried to justify himself. In the end, it is the police who, during a check a week later, find the car. The defendant's friend is driving, he does not have a license. The owner had to have her car towed to her home.

For all these facts, and in view of his criminal record which includes six convictions, the defendant was sentenced to 18 months in prison, including 8 months firm. He is forbidden to contact Leila for two years and will have to follow treatment for his addictions, complete an awareness course on domestic violence and compensate the owner of the car for his injury.
