At the request of the defense establishment, and with the approval of Defense Minister Yoav Galant, National Camp Chairman Benny Gantz spoke Sunday evening with IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gantz said: "The security situation is very worrisome and requires attention and strategic security decisions in a variety of arenas of operation. The prime minister must convene a political-security cabinet meeting to understand the implications of the legislation for the IDF before passing the legislation. The same is true of the need to convene the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.
"Tonight's conversation further emphasized to me the need to avoid unilateral moves. I proposed a responsible path out of the crisis and so I will continue to act until the last minute to make this happen. At the same time, I would like to strengthen and appreciate all the commanders and all IDF soldiers, in duty, permanent and reserve duty that guard our security, and I call on tonight as well, to the patriotic and loyal servants and volunteers, whose pain and desire to protect the country is great and important, to continue contributing to Israel's security. Even if, God forbid, the legislation passes, we will cancel it and fix it, sooner or later."
