On the penultimate day of the river festival, the Loisachtaler Bauernbühne fascinates with its play about the legend of the poacher "Wildschütz Jennerwein".

Wolfratshausen – There are many myths surrounding the short life of Georg Jennerwein – also known as "Girgl von Schliers". For some, the poacher, who was shot in 1877 at the age of only 25, was a folk hero – for others a Hallodri, criminal and seducer of women. In the three-act play "Short Process" written by Werner Schlierf, the Loisachtaler Bauernbühne (LBB) processed these points of view into a captivating and entertaining play that thrilled visitors on Saturday evening in the sold-out river festival grandstand.

What to do with the poacher's grave? The mayor of Schliersee is debating this with the village priest and the chairman of the traditional costume association, among others. In fact, it happened in the early 1960s.

Above all, the stage sets designed by Max Prestel, Konrad Huber and Michael Brauner were elaborate. Thus, after tavern scenes, several trees and once even a bed were brought onto the stage. The Techtelmechtel of Girgl von Schliers (Florian Roth) with the waitress Rosl (Christine Brauner) was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the play. "Dees woaßt' scho, Girgl, dass in mein Kammer net a jeder derf!" purred waitress Rosl. The poacher's response was not long in coming. "Dees brauchen ma net sagn, Rosl, dees hat ma da Hofberger Markus aa scho gsagt," said the Schlierseer. The fact that he later fathers an illegitimate child during a walk with the Bichler dairymaid Agerl enrages his jealous adversary Johann Josef Pföderl (Christian Foitzik).

After Jennerwein had provoked him during a visit to an inn, the two rivals had a fatal encounter on 6 November 1877 at Peißenberg. 84 years later, the mayor of Schliersee (Franz Foitzik) consulted with the pastor (Ludwig Gollwitzer), the chairman of the traditional costume association (Kurt Züge), the coffee house owner Sachs (Hermann Paetzmann) and a zither player (Josef Brustmann) about the care of the poacher's grave, which had become a "place of worship". "Da Jennerwein is for Bavaria dees what da Buffalo Bill is for d' Ami," Sachs pleaded for a continuation of hero worship. The mayor was of a different opinion: "Me hillbillies at the grave of an'm Wuiderer umanand, where they shot 84 years ago," he said angrily. The music cabaret artist Josef Brustmann sang the lyrics: "Now he is dead and yet he lives weida".

This was followed by flashbacks to the last years of the poacher's life as well as dramatic hunting scenes in the forests. At the end there was thunderous applause for the well-humored actors and director Melanie Tobian, who had staged the folk play briskly. "It was a pleasure to play here: we're guaranteed to do it again," Gollwitzer promised the enthusiastic audience a return in two years – at the River Festival 2025.
