Tel Aviv's streets have long been a battleground for two-wheeled riders, partly due to renovations and rough roads. Recently, as part of a settlement, the Tel Aviv municipality paid compensation of about NIS 350,<> to a young scooter rider who broke his hand when he encountered a pothole on Trumpeldor Street in the city.

According to the lawsuit filed in the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court, the 25-year-old who worked as a security guard rented a scooter and rode from his home to meet friends from work in one of the bars in the city. When he reached Trumpeldor Street, the front wheel encountered an obstacle in the road, as a result of which he flew off the scooter, and in his attempt to moderate the fall, landed on his hands and broke his right hand. At first he thought it was a small blow, but later he felt severe pain in his hand, went home to put on ice - and later evacuated himself to the emergency room at Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv.

In the emergency room, he was diagnosed with two wrist fractures, and as a result he was fired from his job as a security manager because his job required training in shooting and Krav Maga. Before the accident, the young man had planned to advance in the security system during his studies and continue in the future in the security world, but the limitations and pain in his hand interrupted his career in the field. He became unemployed, had to go back to live with his parents, and also had to give up a career in the Shin Bet.

A medical expert appointed by the court determined that as a result of the accident, the young man suffered a permanent disability of ten percent. Today the young man is a student of industry and management, but he finds it difficult to work for hours using the mouse on the computer, the pain wakes him from sleep, and since the accident he has been forced to stop all the sports activities he used to engage in, such as basketball and soccer.

His attorney, Benno Glickman, argued in the lawsuit that the municipality is obligated to compensate him because it allows scooters to be rented on its premises for a fee, and therefore must ensure convenient and safe infrastructure for the riders. The amount of compensation obtained in a settlement reached by his counsel was given the validity of a judgment.

Attorney Glickman, who represented the young man, recommends that every person who suffers an accident, in order to ensure and strengthen the chances of receiving financial compensation following an injury, photograph the scene and report the hazard and injury to the municipal hotline.
