2023-07-25T09:21:40.268Z

Highlights: Transportation Ministry sources told Israel Hayom that the actual price has not increased, and that it is a "digital" increase. Public transportation fares were supposed to increase on August 1, but because the apps are connected to credit cards, the price updates have already been made on the 25th of the month. The Prime Minister's Office is expected to hold a meeting this evening on the issue of the increase in public transportation fares, and the Transportation Ministry is determined to prevent the increase. In order to cancel the expected price increase, about NIS 300 million is required, not an amount the government will not be able to meet.

It should be noted that public transportation fares were supposed to increase on August 1, due to the increase in the transportation index, but because the apps are connected to credit cards, the price revision was already carried out on the 25th.

These days, frantic negotiations are still underway between the Ministry of the Gang and the Ministry of Finance in an attempt to prevent or halt the increase in prices. Transportation Ministry sources told Israel Hayom that the actual price has not increased, and that the price increase is "digital," and that once agreements are reached to cancel the increase, the amounts in the apps will be updated retroactively.

According to the sources, the Prime Minister's Office is expected to hold a meeting this evening on the issue of the increase in public transportation fares, and that the Transportation Ministry is determined to prevent the increase.

In order to cancel the expected price increase, about NIS 300 million is required, not an amount that the government will not be able to meet. One of the proposals proposed by Transportation Minister Miri Regev during the negotiations with the Ministry of Finance is that her ministry finance about two-thirds of the amount from the infrastructure budget for next year.

Those currently fighting against raising public transportation fares are mainly the ultra-Orthodox parties, because the ultra-Orthodox population will not benefit for the most part from Regev's public transportation reform, which grants discounts to the geographic periphery. The prime minister is expected to decide on the issue in the coming days.

The bottom line is that if by August 1 the Ministries of Transport and Finance do not find a way to prevent or curb the increase in prices, the price will really rise.
