The Exorcist: Believers has a terrifying and long trailer and brings a character from the original

2023-07-25T20:51:58.075Z

Highlights: The new film forgets about the 4 sequels and anchors itself in the original from 50 years ago. The director of the new The Exorcist is David Gordon Green, who recently revived, to my taste, badly, John Carpenter's Halloweenfranchise. Ellen Burstyn returns as Chris MacNeil, the mother of Regan (Linda Blair) in the new film. It will be released in Argentina presumably on October 12, one day before in the United States (Friday 13) and shortly before Halloween.

The new film forgets about the 4 sequels and anchors itself in the original from 50 years ago. When does it premiere?

When it premiered in Buenos Aires in August 1974, an ambulance was parked at the door of the Opera cinema on Corrientes Avenue. No, not as a precaution, but as a marketing move. Almost fifty years after William Friedkin's historic horror film The Exorcist premiered days before Christmas 1973 in the United States, a new installment arrives.

And if the four films that served as sequels to that masterpiece of horror were a bodrio -or four-, in this one a character from the original returns.

And there's more: there is no girl possessed by the devil. There are two.

The poster of the new film, not with one, but with two possessed girls.

All that can be seen in the trailer that Universal has just uploaded to its social networks.

Ellen Burstyn returns as Chris MacNeil inThe Exorcist: Believer, as it will be released in Argentina presumably on October 12, one day before in the United States (Friday 13 ...) and shortly before Halloween.

Well, the director of the new The Exorcist is David Gordon Green, who recently revived, to my taste, badly, John Carpenter's Halloweenfranchise.

Katherine (Olivia Marcum), one of the girls who disappeared and when they came back they returned, how to say it? Different.

It has not yet been released, and it is already known that there will be a sequel, so much is the faith (heh) they have in the film.

It will be titled The Exorcist: Deceiver, and will be released in almost two years, on April 18, 2025. Yes, it will premiere on Good Friday of that year...

And there will not be two without three, because this new The Exorcist was planned as a new trilogy, so then the third will come.

Ellen Burstyn reprises as Chris, Regan's mother. Today he is 90 years old.

What we know

According to the trailer, Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton, A Night in Miami...) leaves her little girl at the school gate. But you won't find it for a few days. She, and a companion, disappear. Luckily they are found after an intense search, apparently in a forest. But the girls have a notion of the time they were lost. They think hours, and as we said they were days.

Of course strange things begin to happen. And as the parents of the two girls find no explanations, well, that's where Mike Oldfield's music begins to be heard, and Ellen Burstyn, who was Chris MacNeil, the mother of Regan (Linda Blair) in The Exorcist, appears on the scene.

One of the scenes from "The Exorcist". 50 years ago there were not as many tricks as in the present to make Regan levitate...

Chris warns them of the danger the girls are in, but also, as you can see, he must face his own fears of what happened in his past.

But will Regan's mom be able to save the girls, covered in bloody satanic marks, by entering a church, and/or devouring pages of the Bible?

The official synopsis may clarify -or not- something more than what can be seen in the very long trailer, more than 3 minutes.

"Since the death of his pregnant wife in an earthquake in Haiti 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Leslie Odom, Jr.) has raised his daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett) on his own. But when Angela and her friend Katherine (Olivia Marcum) disappear into the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, a chain of events is unleashed that will force Victor to confront the lowest point of evil and, in his terror and desperation, search for the only person alive who has witnessed anything like this before: Chris MacNeil."

Linda Blair and Ellen Burstyn, at their home in Washington. "The Exorcist" was nominated for 10 Oscars.

The Exorcist was based on the novel by William Peter Blatty, and focused on Regan, a young woman who experiences strange changes when she is possessed by a demonic entity, and her actress mother decides to seek the help of priests to perform an exorcism on her daughter.

The Exorcist was nominated for ten Oscars, including best film and direction (that year it won The Blow, with Paul Newman and Robert Redford), and won two statuettes, adapted screenplay and sound. And it marked a before and after in the horror genre, with or without the green vomit that came out of Linda Blair's mouth.
