Three former military personnel testified Wednesday before the U.S. Congress that they have had encounters with unidentified objects and that the government is withholding information about extraterrestrials. The hearing is part of an unusual joint initiative by Republicans and Democrats demanding greater transparency about these inexplicable phenomena that have fascinated the American public and the world for decades.

The key witness is David Grosuch, a former intelligence officer, who claims that the government has "intact and semi-intact" alien spacecraft and is illegally withholding the information from Congress. In his opening statement, he said he decided to disclose insider information following reports he had heard from "respected and trustworthy" government officials, past and present, and intelligence officials that the U.S. government was "operating in secrecy" about unexplained anomalies.

He said that during his military service, he received information that the government had for decades taken control of crashed UFOs and conducted a program to reverse engineer those foreign objects. According to him, his request for more information about this was denied.

Another witness, Ryan Graves, a former Navy pilot, said observations of unidentified objects in the air were not unusual, but they were significantly underreported. According to him, government officials have more information about the phenomenon than they admit. He said that in 2014, he and his team detected unidentified objects in U.S. airspace, over the ocean.

However, not everyone present at the discussion was convinced by their words. Republican Congresswoman Virginia Fox questioned whether there was "credible information" to claims that the objects may have originated from another planet, citing the panic created earlier this year when a Chinese spy balloon entered U.S. airspace and theories surrounding it before it was detected. She said it could cause "unnecessary fear."
