A page of nearly four decades is turning, but the novel of the Hun dynasty has barely begun. Three days after a landslide victory in a puppet election, Prime Minister Hun Sen announced on Wednesday (July 26th) that he will not seek another term. After more than thirty-eight years at the head of the Cambodian government, he gave way to his eldest son, completing a long-planned nepotistic transition. "Hun Manet will take office as prime minister of the kingdom of Cambodia on the evening of August 22," said early afternoon on national television the strong man of the country, who will blow his 71st candle next week.
Last Sunday, Hun Manet was elected MP for the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), led by his father, in one of Phnom Penh's 12 constituencies.
