In Tel Aviv,
Yellow cards are piling up for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The business world, start-up bosses, the stock market and, to top it off, foreign banks and rating agencies are criticizing the passage of the first part of a judicial reform of the government that has pushed hundreds of thousands of protesters into the streets and provoked the beginning of insubordination within the army.
This motley coalition is protesting against the Prime Minister's desire to curtail the powers of the Supreme Court in favour of the government. The text, voted Monday by Parliament, provides that the highest judicial body will no longer be able to invalidate decisions of ministers deemed "unreasonable", in other words discriminatory or liberticidal.
