About fifty people were arrested Wednesday throughout Morocco, during a vast anti-terrorist raid targeting suspected supporters of jihadist groups, local media said, citing security sources. Among them, 21 were placed in custody under the supervision of the prosecutor's office, the same sources said.
These arrests were the result of simultaneous operations in several cities across the country, conducted by agents of the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) and special anti-terrorist forces of the General Directorate for Surveillance of the National Territory (DGST).
Seized bladed weapons
The suspects are suspected of having "pledged allegiance" to the jihadist groups of the Islamic State (IS) and al Qaeda. According to these security sources, searches led to "seizure of bladed weapons", "publications advocating terrorism and documents relating to methods of making explosives". While Morocco has been spared attacks linked to jihadist groups in recent years, its security services regularly report anti-jihadist raids and foiled attack plans.
