At least six people were injured, none seriously, when a high-rise construction crane caught fire around eight a.m. on Wednesday in Manhattan, in the heart of New York City, and part of its structure collapsed to the ground, local authorities said.
When the crane fell, located in a skyscraper on Tenth Avenue between 41st and 42nd Streets, in Hell's Kitchen, part of its rotating axis hit other adjacent skyscrapers, while the flames formed a black cloud in the air.
Four civilians and two firefighters were injured; at least three of them were taken to a hospital, according to local NBC News station in New York and ABC News.
Firefighters used their hoses from the roof deck of another building to extinguish the flames in just an hour. Surrounding streets were closed to traffic, affecting traffic near the Port Authority bus terminal and the Lincoln Tunnel, which links New York City to New Jersey under the Hudson River.
