Three and a half years, an eternity on a Russian scale. In Sochi in autumn 2019, the first Russia-Africa summit was a success. In front of almost all African leaders, Vladimir Putin announced with aplomb the goal of doubling trade between Russia and the world's largest continent in five years, which had then reached 20 billion dollars. But two successive crises, global pandemic and open conflict in Ukraine, then went through this.
A sign of troubled times for Russia, the diplomatic luster of this second edition - its duration has been reduced from three to two days - will be less than in 2019. According to the Kremlin's diplomatic adviser, Yuri Ushakov, 17 African countries will still be represented "at the highest level": Senegal, Congo, Central African Republic, Mali, Zimbabwe, Egypt, South Africa, Burundi, Uganda, Eritrea, Mozambique, Cameroon, Burkina Faso and Guinea-Bissau.
