Following complaints by demonstrators protesting in Kaplan against Tel Aviv Special Patrol Unit Commander Yair Hanona, the DIP summoned two young men to file a complaint today. According to testimonies, some of which were posted online, Hanouna violently arrested demonstrators, one of whom was filmed punching an 18-year-old man in the face. According to the young man, Hanouna injured him, threatened him and refused to help him receive medical treatment.

In response to allegations of an increase in police violence during Monday's protests, the police said, "The Israel Police dealt yesterday with dozens of protests without coordination, which developed into serious disturbances of the peace, including blocking roads, harming police officers, continuous disruption of the fabric of life for long hours and causing damage."
"During the disturbances on Route 20, the officers noticed a young man trying to push plastic thrown at the officers under the wheels of the spray tanker in order to disrupt its work. The police officers who noticed his actions arrested the suspect, but he began to resist and tried to obstruct the arrest, and in the process fell along with the policemen. During his transport to the police car, he shouted in the faces of the officers as saliva came out of his mouth and reached the face of the officer, who tried to turn his face to the side to avoid the saliva.
Under no circumstances and at no point was the suspect beaten with punches or at all."

The police added that "any allegation of conduct that deviates from the norm should be examined by the authorities documented for this." Indeed, the DIP received two online complaints against Hanona. One complaint against me was filed yesterday and one a few days ago.
In light of this, the PIU summoned two young men today to file a complaint against Hanouneh after viewing footage from the demonstrations. The decision whether to summon Hanouna for questioning with a warning will be made after they are examined by the DIP. It should be noted that both the police commissioner and the minister of national security have been careful since the outbreak of the protests to back the police officers in the field.
