The municipality of Vicente López completed the works of the new Munro Cultural Center, which has already reopened its doors for the winter holidays. The renovation works of the historic complex had been interrupted after a fire that destroyed the site in August 2019.
As indicated from the commune, the works focused on the integral reconstruction of the cultural center, with the enhancement of the cinema and theater with an expanded and modernized space that, according to reports, can compete quietly with the best theater halls in the country.
There were placed more than 450 seats and the opening of a new stage of 112 square meters, with giant screen and curtain. In addition, the equipment was modernized with 360° acoustic sound, LED lighting and state-of-the-art scenographic technology.
The cinema and theatre hall has capacity for 450 spectators and is equipped with the latest technology.
A new parabolic roof was also executed, concrete reinforcements were built in the party walls, the projection room slab and the reinforcement of existing metal structures. In the same way, the entire electrical installation of the building, the historic main façade and general painting works were renovated.
Finally, new access doors to the space and the room and the conditioning of the existing emergency exit were incorporated.
"I am a lifelong neighbor of Munro, I have been here for 55 years, I have the place in front, and always here as a neighbor we have lived the entire history of this space. Since we came to the cinema and in recent times as a cultural center I came periodically to see the shows that were wonderful. I am delighted by the facilities that have been made and just now that they reopen it at the time of the children's holidays I imagine that they will enjoy it totally, "said Agustín Arnaldo, the founder of the historic Arnaldo Ice Cream Shop.
They reopened the Munro Cultural Centre in the middle of the winter holidays and are already exhibiting proposals in the place.
Mayor Soledad Martinez added: "The Munro Cultural Center is an emblem of Munro's culture and the identity of Vicente López. It is a place that we were about to inaugurate with Jorge Macri but unfortunately some years ago it suffered a very strong fire that forced us to rebuild it from its foundations. There is a very great work of the entire municipal team and a deep gratitude to the neighbors. It is a historic space, which will also now serve for the winter holidays, different programs and activities. "
The Munro Cultural Center, located in Vélez Sarsfield at 4650, is an emblematic space for the neighbors of the neighborhood. It is located in the open-air commercial center of the neighborhood and has a long history. First it was the headquarters of the Astral Cinema, which also gave its name to the famous pizzeria that is a few meters from the place.
A fire in 2019 had interrupted the remodeling works. They had to rebuild the place from the ground up.
Then, since April 29, 1994, he returned to give vitality to the neighborhood as a cultural center, being able to receive renowned artists and counting on the patronage of Julio Martel Harispe, tango singer, and Olga Zubarry, Argentine actress.
During these winter holidays the Munro Cultural Center will host more than 10 cultural proposals that include theater, cinema, circus and magic, among other activities.
