Singapore on Friday hanged a woman, 45-year-old Saridevi Djmani, who was convicted of attempted drug trafficking. Among other things, she tried to sell a heroin-type drug.
No woman has been executed in the country for nearly two decades, most recently that of Yan Mai-wen, 36, who was executed after a drug conviction in 2004. Human rights groups called Dejmani's case "a grim milestone for Singapore."

"She was provided with due process and fairness under the law and was represented by legal counsel throughout the process," CNB said, adding that Singapore law permits the death penalty for trafficking more than 15 grams of heroin.
Singapore is one of the strictest countries on drug traffickers, and its government maintains the strictest laws and penalties for all those involved to deter and keep its citizens safe.
