Opinion | Gantz and Lapid, Don't Believe Netanyahu | Israel Hayom

Highlights: Lapid and Gantz must remember that at this stage, sticky, sticky words will be spilled on them – pure honey – but one with poison at the end. Every lifeline they send to Netanyahu will lead to them eating the stinky fish and being expelled from the political arena in the next elections. The stones of the wall are falling apart, and would have broken down faster if the opposition had been able to speak with one voice. The opposition's job is to topple the government, not to save it from complications it creates.

After the embarrassing selfie with Yariv Levin and the cheerleading band, Minister Miri Regev took the time to call for unity and reconciliation. This is the order of the day, and apparently it is also the message page. "Democracy is important to all of us. It is worth remembering that in the end there are many things that unite us. Can argue. You don't have to agree on everything. But in the end we have one state, one people and one army, and only together, God willing, will we win," Regev tweeted on Thursday, days after calling the protesters "privileged thugs," and in another tweet: "This bullying must be condemned and enforced."

And she's not the only one. So did MK Boaz Bismuth, who called for unity after attacking the protest and its leaders, and to this we add the efforts of Defense Minister Yoav Galant, who is trying to bring about unity with Gantz and Lapid and without Smotrich and Ben-Gvir. And oh, even 100 mayors affiliated with the Likud signed a document calling for unity and bringing hearts together.

Lapid and Gantz must not be captivated by these hollow words. Not only is it impossible to believe the word of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who tells his police officers what to say, they must remember that at this stage, and since there are no taxes on words, words will be spilled on them. Gorgeous, sweet. Stickiness. Pure honey, but one with poison at the end. They want to kill them softly and suppress the protest.

They must continue their firm position that they do not join a government headed by a defendant with three indictments. They remind themselves and the public that the opposition's job is to topple the government, not to save it from the complications it creates.

Patience required

Such struggles require patience and breathing time. Leadership is needed. The stones of the wall are falling apart, and would have broken down faster if the opposition had been able to speak with one voice. Any lifeline they send to Netanyahu will lead to the fact that the day is not far off and they will find themselves in the depths of the sea, with a heavy stone tied to their feet. They will also eat the stinky fish and be expelled from the political arena in the next elections.

A firm position alongside the popular protest that took place yesterday in Belfort, for the 30th consecutive week, together with the protest of the reservists and the American pressure, which this week announced progress with the Saudis in exchange for concessions for the Palestinians, are already bearing fruit. The first stone in the wall fell when MK David Bitan announced that what had happened until now would not be, and that he would not allow a single person – that is, Yariv Levin – to run the play as if it were his one-man show, in a theater that we all fund.

The second fell when the Director General of the Ministry of Education, a personal friend of Education Minister Yoav Kish, resigned in protest of the legal reform. Immediately afterwards, stones were thrown as more and more members of the Likud faction announced that they would not vote in favor of continuing the legislation unless it was brought with broad consensus. Minister Ofir Akunis even said in the interview: "In the Prime Minister's opinion, I say that the continuation of the legislation will be based on a desire for broad consensus... There is no reason why the Judicial Selection Committee should not convene to select magistrate and district judges."

Netanyahu wants them to talk about agreement. It is convenient for him to talk about unity. Don't believe him.
