The Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel strongly opposes the railway plan from Kiryat Shmona to Eilat and notes that the project has many negative implications in a wide range of areas.
"The train to Eilat is one of the largest and most expensive land transportation projects ever proposed in Israel, and its implications in a variety of areas of life are many and significant," the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel said in a statement, adding that "since the issue was discussed by the government about nine years ago, data and information have been added, shedding light on the project, and mainly raising difficult and probing questions regarding the feasibility of the goals defined for it."

"All the goals of the project, geo – strategic, transportation, logistic, environmental and economic – do not stand the test of criticism and reality, and in other words, the project will not achieve any of the goals set for it. On the other hand, it could lead to enormous environmental damage, both in the Negev and Arava regions, and in the Gulf of Aqaba."
"Therefore, the time has come to stop the advancement of this harm-intensive project, which does not at all serve the goals they set for it, and to focus on providing other transportation solutions, for the city of Eilat and the Arava."
