To whom was the defense minister referring? Yoav Galant was asked on Monday by Knesset members of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee why he did not act as he did in March and called for a halt to the legislation.
Gallant replied: "I was willing to pay a political price and I thought there would be more people with me. But some of the people I had in mind wanted my job."

At the time, Gallant called for a halt to the legislation in an official statement. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later decided to fire him in what sparked protests.
From the moment Gallant was fired until the impeachment was overturned, the names of several Likud members who were candidates to "succeed" him were raised. Among the candidates were Nir Barkat, Israel Katz and Avi Dichter – considered the leading candidate. The latter finally decided to withdraw his candidacy, as revealed in Israel Hayom.
