The ceremony for the replacement of the commander of the Southern District of the police is currently taking place (Tuesday), with Commissioner Amir Cohen replacing Commissioner Peretz Amar at the district headquarters in Be'er Sheva. The ceremony was attended by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, Police Commissioner RNZ Yaakov Shabtai.
The incoming district commander, outgoing Border Police Commander Amir Cohen, said, "Rubik, we all want a strong police force that will strike the criminal citizen with an iron fist and silk gloves at the law-abiding citizen," addressing the mayor of Be'er Sheva.
Beer Sheva Mayor Ruvik Danilovich spoke at the ceremony: "I didn't go up with pages, I went up with the pages of my heart. I cry out to my country, many ministers and governments that have changed. This cry is the cry of the police in the south. Boy I was and I'm old, I've been in the system for 23 years. I had serious complaints with the police, but I sobered up, those who stayed here are the great heroes. In recent years, we have been in the process of disintegration. It was easy to get up and go, and those who stayed are on a mission here. It is impossible to say that in recent years it has been easy for us, the State of Israel has hit the Israel Police very badly. The police belong to all of us and deserve to be of quality and status. When we were children we dressed up as police officers, they were our admiration figures.

"We need to do some soul-searching with ourselves. Recruiting a police officer is not from one day to the next. I very much hope that the young people will understand that this is the next challenge. This is our country and this is an important mission for the security of the State of Israel. But in the meantime, we must understand reality. We are in for a big event. The overwhelming majority of the State of Israel wants peace and quiet, to get up and toil their day safely, to play sports without anyone bothering them, this event that has several fronts, we as a country have made sure to erode and erode the power of the police. Police officers are not allowed to say these things, I'm not here to whitewash people. I am a man of the kingdom, we must not lose the country, the police today are limited in manpower and resources."
He added: "Let us, the municipal policing, deal with day-to-day affairs and you have to go and deal with civilian terrorism and criminal organizations. It's time for creative solutions. Reality has changed."
Later, the mayor turned directly to Minister Ben-Gvir and indirectly criticized him, and immediately qualified, "I also said this to your predecessors."
